The new Alzheimer / dementia special care
facility is sited between the existing nursing home and historic floral clock shown at the
southeast corner of the site. The clock is a city treasure, which draws visitors from the
region. Parking is included to accommodate visitors to the special care facility, as well
as to the clock.
The new special care facility links to the existing nursing home through the expanded
dayroom and corridor shown on the upper left. The sloped roofs and residential scale of
the facility increase the feeling of home for residents.
The main visitor entrance faces the west parking area. The entry is covered with a canopy
for protection from the elements, and greets visitors with a friendly scale.
The dashed parking shown to the west depicts the ultimate parking build-out and shows how
this parking lot construction fits into the master plan framework.
Residential fences and plantings are used to screen parking, on the southwest and
northeast, from resident room windows. The outdoor courtyard area shown on the east of the
facility is secured for resident's use. |
