Located in the heart of a small, rural
community, the 25-acre campus presented a wonderful opportunity for planning with a full
range of housing options in mind.
The decision was quickly made to maintain the center of the superblock as a "village
green" with strolling paths, planned-in seating areas and recreational areas. This
becomes the centerpiece for the green space "Village" concept used throughout
the plan.
Building masses were pushed to the perimeter of the site to maintain a compatible
relationship with the street and match the surrounding neighborhood.
Beginning with the northeast corner, the plan includes the existing nursing home and care
facility, the new Alzheimer / dementia special care facility highlighted in this
submittal, a new health clinic, planned assisted living, HUD 202 senior affordable
apartments (two phases), patio homes (six phases), and market- rate senior apartments.
Also planned west of the special care facility is an expanded administration wing, a new
chapel, gathering rotunda, and "town square" to house shops and services for the
campus.
All these amenities and housing options are planned to serve residents and their families
over the long term, in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood setting. |
