This four-story 900,698 S.F. facility, located in Northfield, Minnesota, is the flagship for Malt-O-Meal ready-to-eat cereal production.  PDG’s staff has designed over 664,532 S.F. of major expansions at this location and numerous remodeling projects.
The last major addition, Phase 10/11/12, 353,806 S.F. is typical of all projects for which PDG has provided planning, architectural design, and engineering services. Designed as a fast-track project, an aggressive construction schedule required innovative design solutions – good solutions would permit full production capability in less than 16 months. Structural precast concrete beams, columns, floor plank and wall panels were utilized providing a clean, fire proof structure that can be quickly erected, allowing the project to be completed four months ahead of schedule. PDG received a National Award for Best Industrial Facility from the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI). The judges said…"This is an excellent use of structural precast concrete, including beams, columns, and insulated exterior wall panels to create an industrial building on an intense fast-track schedule. It’s a very competent project."  During the design and construction of Phase 10/11/12, PDG was consulting engineer for a four-story 81,600 S.F. office building, which is connected to the main production facility.
Plant 3 mompl31x1.jpg (16115 bytes) Malt-O-Meal’s first remote facility, located in Tremonton, Utah, is a greenfield development. PDG assisted in site selection, program management, including the selection of contractors. The project consists of railroad trackage, site development, rail unloading facility, utility building, bin farm, 208,454 S.F. process building, and a 200,000 S.F. warehouse.   The structures are designed for seismic loading and future expansion.
Plant 4 Malt-O-Meal’s joint venture with American Cereal resulted in a new packaging and warehouse facility in St. Ansgar, Iowa. PDG provided architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering for this 58,288 S.F. facility.
Distribution Facility Located in Northfield, Minnesota. PDG’s staff (employed by a previous firm) designed 128,583 S.F. expansion to the existing facility. Services included architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering.
South Distribution Facility This new Northfield Minnesota facility was a greenfield development consisting of 200,000 S.F. warehouse and truck maintenance facility. Program management included determining additional property to be purchased, vacating platted roadway, replatting of property, site development, and facility design. PDG provided architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering.
