Cook Room Addition & Renovation
Renovating an existing industrial facility whose structures have evolved over several decades provided an additional challenge-- that of advocating cost-effective renovations which plan for the future-- while preserving areas and equipment which are currently in operation. The Cook Room project involved the construction of a new roof structure over the existing, after which the existing roof could be dismantled. A unifying structural grid was inserted, overlaid at multiple areas requiring new structural systems. The new structure was implemented in precast concrete with steel columns; new footings, double tees and columns were carefully inserted amidst existing equipment, requiring only minor intervals of plant “down” time.
