The City of Maplewood was in need of a new facility. The Existing building was more than 50 years old and could not accomodate the size of today's emergency responce vehicles. There was also no available training facility to help expand the work force. To fund a new emergency responce facility consisting of fire and ambulance equipment storage, the City agreed to propose a referendum.
