Gopher Sport is a nationwide distributor of sports equipment and accessories.  PDG has worked with Gopher for several years on projects ranging from overall facility programming to individual business unit renovations.  In 2009 work was completed on a 400,000 S.F. distribution center and 60,000 S.F. corporate office building in Owatonna, Minnesota.  The distribution center is a precast concrete structure with state of the art racking and conveyor system, shipping/receiving offices and employee services for the entire facility.  Corporate offices incorporate an open design evidenced by large exterior windows, minimal interior walls, full height sidelights on all doors and a large skylight over an open stair to second floor balcony and offices. During the design phase Gopher Sport expressed an interest in using sustainable design practices where possible. Use of white TPO membrane together with high efficiency tinted glass on exterior windows were selected to reduce summer solar heat gain. Precast concrete wall panels were made using fly ash (a recycled waste product from burning coal). High efficiency HVAC systems together with in-floor heating in the office portion were installed to provide optimum environmental control.
